An Exercise in Total Environment 2006-7
Michele Allen and Tim Hutchinson Digital Photographic prints and MP3 digital recording
Originally presented as a 5:1 surround sound installation on the Apollo Pavilion in Sept 2007. The work includes interviews with local residents, ambient sound recorded on location and information taken from architectural and planning documents.
The accompanying photographs developed during the process of making the sound piece and led to the production of a new photographic series “While Reason Sleeps”. Both pieces of work were shown together at the DLI museum in Durham in February 2009. A video of the installation, including the full audio mix is available on the audio and video page.

This work and related discussion was part of my practice based PhD which explored site specific art practice and sense of place in the context of Peterlee. I have spoken about this work at conferences nationally and it has been included in exhibitions reappraising British Modernism.
